Mary J. Blige is Bringing The Heat In Power Book II

While the famous series Power has come to an end, it’s not the end of the road for every character in the series –or the fans. The network has revealed that it will be unveiling spin-offs that will still feed the fan’s craving for Power

In the summer months, Starz will be releasing Power Book II: Ghost, a spin-off that stars Mary J. Blige who plays the character ‘Monet’. We’ve learned from producers that Monet is a wealthy woman who owns a business and Queens and runs it with a firm hand.

While the details on how exactly Monet earns her money hasn’t been divulged, fans are speculating that she might just be like Ghost (Omari Hardwick), dealing in a dangerous and ever-changing world of drugs. Executive Producer Courtney A. Kemp had reportedly been contemplating the series for two years but hadn’t made a final decision on it. When famous actress and musician Mary J. Blige met up with her and talked about a Power cameo, as she’s such a huge fan, Kemp decided it was time to actualize the vision.

Courtney Kemp shared with the press that although Power was a masculine show, it boasted of strong, admirable female characters and this will also be taken in the spin-off. To make Mary J. Blige’s character come to life, the producer decided to use to the commanding presence of the singer to perfectly portray Monet’s unique skills and abilities. “She’s as smart, savvy and strategic as Ghost ever was, but her learning doesn’t come from books,” Kemp said. While Ghost was studious and learned a lot of strategizing from books, Monet gets her remarkable abilities from the street. Fans are excited to see Mary J. Blige take on Monet’s role because the musician-turned-actress has shown repeatedly that she truly is a boss lady who is to be respected.

In the official description of the series, it  picks up the narrative a few days after Power’s finale. The sequel then centers on Tariq as he tries to figure out his new life, wanting to let go of his father’s legacy while trying to save his family.

In the anticipated crime drama, LaToya Tonodeo plays Diana, Monet’s daughter and a picture of the two women has circulated, heightening the anticipation for the series. Another exclusive picture shows rapper Method Man takes on the role of a lawyer in the series.

If you are a fan of Power and you loved the suspense, drama and plot twists, Executive Producer Courtney Kemp assures that you will definitely enjoy Power Book II. “There are some people from the original show as well as some new characters,” Kemp explains. She goes on to explain that the series will retain much of the elements Power had. So you can be rest assured that there will be criminality, romance, sex and of course the legal system. “Every scene is still about power!”

Other actors who will be starring in the spin-0ff include Shane Johnson (Saxe), Michael Rainey Jr. (Tariq) and Naturi Naughton (Tasha).

The Official Power Instagram Page has revealed the ‘Power Universe’ which will include three additional spin-offs of the famous show.
