Jill Scott and Erykah Badu Prove Women Can Work Together

Verzuz is bringing people together in more ways than one.  The instagram ‘battles’ have become famous on social media.  Created by music producers Timbaland and Swiss Beatz, they began the battles on the platform by going toe to toe playing their catalog and the winner is decided by the fans. There have been several battles to date including music legends Teddy Riley and Babyface, Scott Storch and Manny Fresh, and Lil Jon and T-Pain.

Neo-Soul Queens Jill Scott and Erykah Badu were the latest to participate.  About halfway through, one fan complained that the ladies were being “too nice” to each other.  I thought this was a battle. Ms. Badu had no problem clapping back at the fan, stating “Go elsewhere if you want some musical catfight.” Class at it’s finest.

According to the Washington Post, over 70,000  other listeners attended the viewing, and none expressed any complaints.

Badu, who spun her best-ofs while a black-and-white Bruce Lee classic played in the background, had some characteristically choice words for the disgruntled listener: This is our thing, she said. Go elsewhere if you want some musical catfight. More than 700,000 other listeners like it just fine.

Scott and Badu stuck to the original vision of Swizz & Tim by creating a space for their fans to enjoy their hits in chill environment, and it has paid off.

Since the verzuz battle, the ladies have seen an increase in their streaming by 300%.  It’s true that there is power in working together.
